Why Has Our SSI Been Cut Under the Couples' Cap???

My husband and I have both been on disability since our teens, mine for legal blindness and his for clinical depression. Before we got married, I received a little less than $500 a month (while living with my mom who reports about $20,000 a year); and he received $400 in SSD and about $220 in SSI. He also gets about $60 monthly in a Food-Stamp program for SSI recipients called SkyCap.

We were married about four months ago and reported it within about a week. It took Social Security until this month to make any changes, and they did not notify us of them; they simply suprised us with drastically reduced checks this month.

According to what I've read, the cap is supposed to be $904 for last year and higher for 2007; but we are only getting $804 now, which is quite a bit less than our total monthly bills.

Having need of two hip replacements now, he is also physically disabled, and with our combined circumstances, neither of us can work.

What's going on? What can we do?Why Has Our SSI Been Cut Under the Couples' Cap???
call and talk to someone at legal aide. they won't charge you based on your income. good luck, i hope this helps.
